Samuel enlisted in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force on 29 October 1915, and served with the 1st Canadian Pioneers in France from 1916 to 1918 in World War I. Ha was shot in the neck on 18 March 1916, and was shot in the shoulder on 31 August 1917. He was awarded a Good Conduct Badge - Field on 16 November 1917. He was killed in action on 27 July 1916 in Ypres, Belgium, and is buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground (Transport Farm), Zillebeke, West Flanders, Belgium. |
