John William Beare married Elizabeth Maynard on 27 December, 1806, in St Peters Church, Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland. He was born circa 1780, but his birthplace remains a mystery. John and Elizabeth had eight children. On 10th January 1821, they walked into St. Peters with six children, where they were received into the Church as members by the Vicar, the Reverend Joseph Jervois, who was the incumbent for Ballymodan Parish from 1813 to 1825. The eight children were Elizabeth, Isaac, Maria, Jane, John, Anne, George and Sarah. They all lived in a house to the west of what is now known as the Cottage Hospital. On an old deed, John's occupation was given as Cotton Manufacturer. In 1829 the whole family moved to a new house adjacent to the road which goes from Bandon to Innishannon, and located in the area known as Irishtown, which was the most built-up part outside the walled area. At the fork in the road known as Irishtown cross roads, John actually built two houses. Why two? We think one may have been a public house or an inn. The water supply, which originally was came from a spring in the field behind the house, was later got from a well dug in the yard in 1888. Some time after the dwelling was occupied, some other buildings were added on the west side of the yard at the rear. One building, which was for Shorthorn cows, measured twenty-eight by fifteen with a slated roof. These cows were a very reliable dual purpose breed, now very scarce. The walls were of stone similar to the dwelling. Quite a large amount of excavation had to be done because of the rising ground. Next to the cow-stall was a smaller building, ten by fifteen, which was the stable. This had a cobble-stone floor and between the stable and the dwelling was a store, with a loft over it used as a workshop, which was always known as the Shanty in later years. John died in 1867 and is buried in St. Peters Church cemetery in Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland.

Sometime prior to 1834 Isaac and his brother John left home for the New World, along with their sister Jane. John returned to Ireland with the news that Isaac had died, believed to be as a result of knife-fight in New York, however no other details of his death have been sourced to date.

Maria Beare was born circa 1815 in Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland. She is the second daughter and third child of John Beare and Elizabeth Maynard. No further details are known of Maria at this time.

Jane Beare was born circa 1816 in Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland. She is the third daughter and fourth child of John Beare and Elizabeth Maynard. Jane sailed to Canada, probably from Queenstown (now Cobh), even though she may have gone from Kilmacsimon Quay below Innishannon, as ships traded between there and New Brunswick, and were glad to return with passengers. About eighty families left Bandon in the early 1800's and founded New Bandon in that Province. We believe she sailed in the company of her brothers Isaac and John. On 7 April 1839 at Trinity Anglican Church, St Johns, New Brunswick, Jane and Josiah Roberts were married by the Reverend Dr. Benjamin Gray. Some years later Jane and Josiah moved to Murray Harbour in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The house where they lived is still in good condition. Josiah had a vessel, a small store and a blacksmith shop. They had seven children: Elizabeth Jane, William James, Louisa Mary, Wesley, John, Josiah and David. Jane died in 1894 and is buried in Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

John William Beare was born circa 1817 in Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland. He is the second son and fifth child of John Beare and Elizabeth Maynard. John emigrated to America with his brother Isaac sometime prior to 1834, we believe with their sister Jane to Canada, and then on to New York. After his brothers death John returned to Ireland. John then set sail with his sister Anne, for Sydney, Australia, on 26 October 1843 on the ship the Neptune, and arrived in Sydney on 11 February 1844. His whereabouts thereafter, date of death etc. remain a mystery to date.

Peter died as the result of falling beneath his dray at Cooma on 16 February 1857. Anne married George Blewitt (son of William Blewitt and Ann Hardcastle, and born circa 1820 at Hornchurch, Essex, England) on 5 January 1858 in Christ Church, Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia. In 1878 he won a first class scholarship, and his brilliant career as a student closed with him being elected a fellow of his college in 1887. From 1889 - 1898 he held the chair of Moral Philosophy, and in 1902 he was appointed Regios Professor of Greek until 1915 when he became Senior Proctor. I believe the names of places where jobs were available were put in a hat in College and those who qualified picked out their future destination. George chose Griquatown, Bechuanaland, South Africa. He left home for the last time on the ship Athenian in April 1893. His brother, John, was at Southampton to see him off. As he traveled south, whether through depression or what may have seemed fatalistic prospects, he consigned his personal papers to the Atlantic. He wrote when he reached his destination and kept up his correspondence regularly over the following years with his two brothers in Dublin and Bandon. George quickly settled down to a regular work schedule vaccinating the natives and attending to the usual problems that beset humans everywhere. He acquired several horses and used these to travel long distances in the course of his work, and was accompanied by a policeman usually. His pastimes were shooting, tennis and cricket. Being a doctor and also having been brought up on a small farm meant a knowledge of horses and being able to attend to their problems was very necessary and an advantage. Having had four years of work there George wrote to a friend who had influence with some Government official who was to decide who should get a medical position in another town 108 miles north of Griquatown called Kuruman. The job would mean more money so when he officially moved in 1896 he was pleased. He was actually engaged to a girl at home when he emigrated but by mutual consent after some correspondence this arrangement was terminated and some time later he made friends with the Price family. George married Elizabeth Price in 1901. They have two daughters, Helen Barbara and Mary Elizabeth. George died at the age of 79 in 1941 and is buried in South Africa.

Kerry, and they returned to Bandon to live and raise a family. They had four children George, Benjamin, Susan and William. It must have been a sad day for his mother to say goodbye to him on 9 July 1903, knowing in her heart she would never see her only son again. Billy was visited twice by his father, John Isaac Beare, during his sojourn there, and his health did improve. George Beare was born on 13 October 1895 in Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland. He is the first son and first born child of William Beare and Maria Smyth. On the 27th November the family went to Christ Church, Kilbrogan where the Reverend Benjamin Christmas Fawcett baptised the baby; he was named George. By the turn of the century he was going to school at Cavendish Quay, a boys primary which was built in 1881. He probably stayed there until the age of twelve; his one academic success that I am aware of was to receive a silver medal for spelling. Later he attended another school at the rear of the Presbyterian church in Watergate. Being surrounded by a hard working family who were well educated and religious must have been a good influence. As the years went by his life was to follow the same pattern as his father. Hard work every day and a certain amount of sporting activities such as hockey and games in the Allin Institute. William's interests were varied as time went by. He kept bees for a number of years. He also bought various horse drawn vehicles such as traps and side-cars etc. in need of repair. When these vehicles were made like new and right for the road they were sold again. When George left school he developed all the skills his father had, and kept pigs and a horse, though his first love was the cows. One or two boars were kept for public service which brought farmers from miles around on a regular basis with their sows. A knowledge and friendship grew between George and his clients which he valued more than monetary gain. He tried various schemes to generate cash and worked very hard to set them up but the return was not there. The house property brought in a regular income but the upkeep took time and expense. He used his knowledge to do house improvement contracts for some people but it brought no great fortune. There was rising ground at the rear of the family dwelling so George and some workmen excavated a large amount of this to create room to erect a building on level ground. This building housed an oil driven engine which was used to drive a 30ft shafting by a long belt. There were various other pulleys on the shafting which were connected to three machines - a saw, a roller for rolling oats or other types of grain and a machine for grinding grain. The grain to be milled was brought by local farmers and was usually machined while they waited. William and his son George both had some horrible accidents; they both fell from roofs several times which apparently did not result in any ill effects. These falls were not really accidents as the reason was petit-mal. It appears the relative sufferers had little or no warning of an impending attack; even so they learned to live with the problem, and remained faithful to the bicycle and horse, as a driving licence could not be given anyone with such an affliction. I believe it may have been as a result of one of these accidents that George was dispatched to the Bandon Nursing Home - a marvelous institution founded by the Welply family in an old mansion. The matron of this hospital (for such it was) was Miss Margaret Elliot, a lady whom George became acquainted with in due course. He survived his fall as Tommy Murphy, a casual labourer, prophesied even though other neighbours had mistakenly pronounced him dead and one had even administered some miraculous holy water on the unconscious victim. When George became engaged, certain conditions were to be carried out before the final vows could be made. Up-grading and improving part of the old family home i.e. one woman per kitchen, running water installed, toilet facilities and a proper bathroom made. The old family home which had stood since 1829 had a second kitchen added at the rear of one end with an extra bedroom and bathroom over it. The blocks for the job were home-made by hand and were laid by Buckleys. He did the room himself. His brother helped with some of the finance. Miss Elliot resigned from the Nursing Home in 1932 and returned to the country of her birth - Scotland. George went there in March and they were married at Limekilns Church, Dunfermline, on 22 March 1933, by the Rev. John Ferguson, Minister, Church of Scotland. He was aged 39 and she 34. The result of a chance encounter and maybe an unexpected marriage for both of them. George and Margaret had three sons, William, Robert and George.
